White Flies!

August 27 2003 -  76 degrees - 4:20PM

young spotted salamander - some ways from the river

August 24 2003 -  65 degrees - 7:30PM
waiting for bugs toward the tail end of the White Fly hatch - good trout temps and a busy Sunday night for August

August 22 2003 -  78 degrees - 2:30PM

August 19 2003 -  66 degrees - 9:30PM
spent White Flies on water

August 17 2003 -  64 degrees - 8-9PM

WHITE FLY!
the evening starts as the storms part
to reveal a placid sunset - with no clue to the chaos going on below

the first sign, bugs flying up the road

out on the river:

bugs that collected in a fold of my waders!

August 15 2003 -  73 degrees - 8:00PM - a 'light' White Fly hatch into dark - it begins.

August 13 2003 -  73 degrees - 9:20PM
Water Strider (immature) feeds on one of very few White Flies on the surface

(above/R) hundreds of Water Striders  and a few Crane Flies attracted to flashlight beam

August 13 2003 -  79 degrees - 12:40PM

water high and cloudy today due to thunderstorms

August 11 2003 -  78 degrees - 7:20PM
Ken Corey throws a nice smooth loop across the Farmington with a copy of a Dickerson 801610

storms & waiting for the White Flies

August 8 2003 -  78 degrees - PM
 heavy air makes evening mist pour along the river

August 5 2003 -  75 degrees - 12:50PM
Corner pool - quiet but breezy afternoon -

this time of year most creatures stay close to the water but use the foliage for camouflage

August 4 2003 -  77 degrees - 2:45PM
from the Birches during a pulse of 750cfs
